The colorful red pulp has a rich flavor of berries and strawberries and moderate sweetness. Calvert figs originally come from the fig-breeding program at University of California Davis. With a long hang-time on the tree, Calvert figs require a little patience as they ripen. Healthy trees will grow with medium vigor, and may be suited for small spaces. Calvert trees grow mostly spade leaves with gentle sloping edges. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October\/November) will ship out first in November\/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine.
