This variety produces a breba in the spring, a main crop in July, and a late season crop in November. LSU Purple trees grow in a compact shape and can tolerate winter temperatures when planted directly in the ground.

LSU Purple was part of the Louisiana State University fig growing program that was begun by Dr. Ed O’Rourke in the 1950s. Dr. O’Rourke and his students bred fig trees for improved resistance to disease and suitability for growing in Gulf Coast climates. Many superior figs have resulted from this breeding program, which can be identified by the “LSU” in their names. Dr. O’Rourke’s paper on LSU Purple was published in the early 1990s, and the variety has been a staple in the fig community since then.

Terms and Conditions:

***Please be sure to read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing cuttings***

When do we ship cuttings?

Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):

We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state.
