They have a light red pulp with a complex flavor and fruity fragrance. Tasters have noted both brown sugar and fruity flavors like strawberry in this unique fig. Marseillaise is a dwarf variety of tree that is slow growing and bushy. Marseillaise figs are smaller in size, have closer node spacing, and ripen consistently all along the branches. The figs can easily dry on the tree and the tree also bears distinct leaves. Marseillaise trees will produce a breba crop in July and a main crop that ripens in September and October.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eMarseillaise is a fig that was originally grown by famed-grower, Baud, in France. There are records of this fig dating back to the 1700s in France, but it may have been grown in the Mediterranean long before then. This heirloom variety made its way to Nevada City, CA in the late 1800s, where it was grown in Barren Hill Nursery. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October\/November) will ship out first in November\/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine.
