The variety originally came into the fig collection of enthusiast Robert in 2003 when his nephew gave him the unknown fig as a gift. His nephew was a member of the California Rare Fruit Growers Association. Although similar to Golden Riverside, it is not in fact the same. Robert gave it the name Golden Rainbow because it had many colors and Rainbow, CA was the town where his nephew lived. While this fig is not new to California fig growers, it is relatively new to a wider audience. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October\/November) will ship out first in November\/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine.
